Batch Palette Scaler
A downloadable tool for Windows
Batch Palette Scaler is a Java-based tool to scale graphics while applying a palette to them. It can be used to create sprites by scaling down hand-drawn art and applying a global palette to them or to scale down existing sprites, each confining to its own palette.
How it works:
Simply run the executable and wait for the GUI to pop up. You can select the type of scaling and the palettes to be used with the radio buttons. 0.5× scale is the preset, a scaling factor can be entered in a text field if "Custom scale factor" is selected. If 0.5× scale is selected, image files with dimensions which aren't even are ignored unless the box "Ignore divisibility" is checked.
The tool can either use every image's palette for itself or recieve an image containing a palette which will be used on all images. If "Global palette file" is selected, a palette image will have to be loaded by clicking the "Load Palette" button.
A file format for the images has to be selected using the spinner. This tool supports PNG, GIF, JPG and BMP files. Then, using the "Load images" button, all images of the selected format will be loaded from the selected folder.
Once all the necessary inputs have been set, you can click the "Scale down" button and the tool will automatically create an output folder next to the input folders. Additionally, a text file will be created in the tool's folder which will save the last used settings and load them upon reopening. Then, you only need to click the "Scale down" button to run the tool with the same settings again.
Example artwork thanks to my good friend PVic, Cooper Black is his character.
